RADON
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas which is everywhere. Radon is an odourless, tasteless, invisible gas that is produced by the decay of naturally occurring uranium in soil. Radon is a form of ionising radiation and is proven to cause cancer. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in Ireland after smoking. Radon enters the home through cracks in the floor, foundations, or openings for pipes, and can reach unacceptably dangerous levels.
TESTING
Radon levels are detected using small detectors which are placed on a bookshelf, kitchen cupboard etc. for the period of the test. They are not intrusive, are safe, and are not radioactive in any way.
